Restormel Castle

Standing in ruins amid beautiful countryside, Restormel is one of the most remarkable castles in Britain. The castle commands fantastic views across the valley of the river Fowey – with beautiful spring flowers, and plants all year round. The spring especially boasts an array of bluebells, rhododendrons and daffodils across the site. Take in the stunning views and maybe a picnic looking out over what was originally a large deer park. The grounds are also a great place for children to let off steam.

Today the remains of the castle rooms reveal clues to its past grandeur. Large fireplaces, high windows, and the Great Hall, used for gatherings, give a sense of the once oplulent surroundings. One of the castle’s highlights is the wall walk around the inside of the keep, where you can imagine castle life bustling below you centuries ago. Climb up the stone staircase from the courtyard and you will be rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Join the walking trail that connects Restormel Castle to the Duchy Nursery and Cafe for light refreshments and to further explore the Duchy estate.
