Watch the highly skilled china flower maker, Rita Floyd create delicate and precise floral clay sculptures.  Rita, who made a guest appearance on the Great Pottery Throwdown, remains the last of a generation of traditional china flower makers in Stoke-on-Trent still practising today.

Lucy Joines

Lucy makes wheel-thrown ceramics in her studio on the North Coast of Cornwall. She uses local stoneware clay and a porcelain clay to make everything from earrings to stoneware teapots and vases, decorated with inspiration taken from the beauty and magic of the natural world around her.  Lucy will show us how she throws a cup.

Martin Pallet sells unusual and interesting plants grown in his own garden.  As a teacher in horticultural skills, he’ll give us some tips on skills that you can employ in your own garden at home, from composting to seed sowing, taking cuttings and wildlife gardening.

Raku Firing

Fleur Winter and Jackie Clarke will be demonstrating Raku firing technique throughout the day, taking us through each step in the process of heating of the pots in the kiln before and cooling in an airtight bin of combustibles to make the distinctive crackle effect.

Caroline Winn

Caroline Winn works experimentally with clay, focusing on traces of the past.  For this demonstration, she will make two industrial-inspired buckets: one incorporating metal and porcelain paper clay, the other combining black clay, terracotta and white stonewares.  Using plaster moulds, she will show how impressions and sprigging can enliven the clay surface with historical references.

 

Emma Gunn

Join the author of ‘Never Mind the Burdocks’ who will give some tips on what delicious edibles the local landscape has to offer and to share some of her favourite seasonal recipes.

Winner of the 2019 Whitegold Festival ‘People’s Choice’ award, Demelza will be demonstrating hand building techniques using paperclay.

Katie McBride is a Cornish flower grower who makes wild hand tied blooms and floral arrangements for weddings and events.  She’ll be giving us a demo on making button holes and flower crowns.
