Spend a night sleeping outside at Eden
Help support thousands of young people experiencing homelessness in the UK.
For the fifth year running, Eden are hosting a Sleep Out outside the Biomes on Thursday 15 November 2018, to help support young homeless people across the country.
Sleep Out is a nationwide event organised by the End Youth Homelessness (EYH), a national collaboration of grassroots charities and companies that provide vital support to homeless young people across the UK. The EYH are continually working to raise crucial funds for as many of the 86,000 young people who experience homelessness every year as possible.
We’ll be one of a number of locations hosting a Sleep Out throughout the UK this November, and we need you to get involved! Last year saw a record-breaking Sleep Out, with more than 3,000 supporters sleeping out in 17 locations across the country and raising more than £1.2 million. Let’s make this year an even better success.
You can get involved by registering online (a non-refundable £15 registration fee applies), and pledging to help fundraise as much as possible. As places are limited, we ask that participants aim to raise at least £200 each.
We’ve linked up with two local charities: St Petroc’s Society and the Amber Foundation. When registering, you’ll be able to select one of these deserving charities to fundraise for – they’ll be extremely grateful for any monies raised.
You’ll need to bring your own sleeping bag, but we’ll provide you with a cardboard mat to lie on and a special ‘Sleep Out Bag’. You will be sleeping outside, but there is cover overhead for shelter.
Sleep Out doesn’t aim to replicate homelessness, but it does show you some of the realities – the cold, the damp, the noise and the difficulty of carrying on your day with little sleep. It’s not easy – but we’ll tuck you in with a night of music, food and good company before bedtime.
There’ll be a selection of activities to join in with throughout the evening, and we’ll be providing hot food and hot drinks to keep you warm. You’ll also get the chance to hear inspiring talks and stories from representatives of each of the charities we’re supporting.
Further details of the evening’s programme will be released in the coming months.
